Sustainability
MarketPlace Leichhardt is committed to developing a sustainable future and has been working to reduce its impact on the environment with various initiatives introduced to save electricity and water as well as minimising waste through recycling programs.
We are very excited to be able to showcase to the community MarketPlace Leichhardt's “Choose Green” philosophy and demonstrate how easy it is to adopt green practices into everyday life. MarketPlace Leichhardt has been making significant inroads towards a sustainable future introducing initiatives including:
- Installation of solar panels generating energy to supply our community amenities and Parent's rooms.
- Upgrade of all common mall lighting to energy efficient lighting, upgrade of plant and equipment with energy efficient motors and drives; introduction of power factor correction units and engaging Jones Lang LaSalle's' Energy & Sustainability Services Program to monitor and assist in the reduction of the Centres power, water and gas consumption. As a result, the Centre achieved a 35% reduction in energy consumption from July 2007 to July 2009.
- Purchase of 100% renewable GREEN energy to operate the Centre on a day to day basis
- Introduction of MarketPlace Leichhardt's GREEN LEASE which engages all new retailers to purchase 100% green renewable energy for their businesses and requires all retailers fitouts to comply with best practice standards for recycling, lighting, power, water and waste management.
MarketPlace Leichhardt is committed to developing a sustainable future and we continue to look for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment.
